Three parties agree to buy time; Maoists not to leave the govt immediately

The meeting of the top leaders of the three parties – Nepali Congress (NC), Unified Marxist Leninist (UML) and Maoists – ended without any conclusion on Wednesday.According to Maoist leader Mohan Baidya, the parties agreed that they need few more days for carrying out internal homework.

He added that the Maoists will not leave the government till such homework is completed. Earlier, the Maoists had warned that they could walk out of the government if other parties did not agree to let it form the new government by Thursday.

The Maoists and NC, UML are at loggerheads over the issues of who gets to become president, constitution amendment and arms management, among others.

Meanwhile, due to the failure of the parties to reach to any conclusion, the second meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA) slated for Thursday is likely to end up in a formality.

The three parties had held two rounds of talks on Wednesday but could not arrive at any breakthrough.
